7th annual community ski race in the Methow Valley

Methow Trails and the Methow Valley Nordic Ski Education Foundation are delighted to welcome you to the seventh annual Ski to the Sun Marathon, Half Marathon, and Relay on February 8th, 2025. You'll enjoy food, festivities, and fun along the way! The 2025 Ski to the Sun is SOLD OUT. Registration is open for the waitlists.

Classic & Freestyle division

The course will take racers from Mazama down the valley and up to the sunny slopes of Sun Mountain Lodge for a heart-pounding finish. Steady climbs, fast descents, and festive aid stations await!

Elevation Start: 2,210’ / 673m
Elevation End: 2,680’ / 817m
Total Elevation Gain: +1,932’ / 589m
Total Elevation Loss: -1,040’ / 317m
Team relay: Field limit 225 participants
Marathon categories: Free (skate) or classic, field limit 325
Para Nordic: 10.5km sit ski or standing

Team relay division

Inspired by our popular Sunflower Marathon, Half Marathon, & Relay, the Ski to the Sun Relay encourages skiers of all ages and abilities to join in the festivities! Skiers are welcome to skate or classic, but awards will be based on overall time (no skate and classic divisions).

Leg 3: Goat Creek Road to Browns Farm - 7.2 km
Intermediate Skier - 7.2 km
Leg 4: Browns Farm to Wolf Ridge Resort
Intermediate/Advanced Skier - 11.7 km
Leg 5: Wolf Ridge Resort to Chickadee Trailhead
Intermediate/Advanced Skier - 11.3 km
Leg 6: Chickadee Trailhead to Sun Mountain Lodge
Beginner/Intermediate Skier - 5.2 km

Para Nordic division

The Para Nordic course offers a fun and challenging race from Mazama to Brown’s Farm (10.5km) with categories for standing and sitting racers. Racers will be transported to Sun Mountain Lodge after the race for the awards celebration and lunch.

Registration details

This race will fill, so don’t wait to register once it opens. Registration will open September 15th.

Entry fee includes race bib, custom Ski to the Sun hat, post-race lunch, one free beer (21+), raffle prizes, and awards. No day-of registration. Register early, this event sells out every year.

Methow Trails and Methow Valley Nordic are non-profit organizations. Income from this event supports year-round trail operations and Nordic ski programming in the Methow Valley.

There are no entry refunds, exchanges, transfers or rollovers after January 15th, and the event may be cancelled due to variables beyond our control; severe weather conditions, fire, unhealthy air quality, road closures, natural disasters, or other unforeseeable events. Please note, that the refund fee has increased. There is a $50 refund fee prior to January 15th. We highly recommend purchasing registration insurance through RunReg.

Shuttle Information

Shuttles run continuously between Liberty Bell High School, Mazama, Chickadee, and Sun Mountain Lodge. Shuttles are for spectators and racers and no need to sign up. Just park and hop on a bus!

Dogs

We love dogs, but not at the Ski to the Sun. This is a DOG-FREE EVENT. Please do not bring your pet to any part of this race. Dogs are not allowed on trails in Mazama or Sun Mountain. Sun Mountain Lodge does NOT ALLOW dogs at the Finish Line Venue. Dogs are also not allowed on the shuttle buses, which is the only form of transportation to and from the race venue. Thank you for your understanding. We would love to see your pup at the Doggie Dash or on any of our dog-friendly trails.

Ski Demo - Come check out the latest and greatest in ski equipment with this free, public event!

Bib & Chip Pick Up -4:00-6:00pm Winthrop Mountain Sports

We highly recommend this option!
Relay teams must pick up their chips on Friday. Only 1 member needs to be present.
You are welcome to pick up a chip/bib for a friend/family member, but will need to verify their age.

Food for racers only. Please bring a picnic lunch for family members and spectators.
